A simple but profound step initiated the beginning of our outreach ministry. My wife made friends with a non-Christian family and, through prayer, sought permission to conduct evangelism in their home as a guise of English lessons. Blessed by His grace, the family welcomed us in, and we had to start our evangelism with children in the neighbourhood; the start was as simple as gathering the kids from the family. This first contact has been the basis for our evangelistic work as we attempt to introduce the children to Bible stories they may have had little or no exposure to.
This helps us build a relationship with the children as we steer them towards a Christian way of living. In sequence, we go to teach Bible verses, sing songs, and dance, all in the company of a minister from the local church. In order to enhance these sessions, EFG students are engaged in teaching Bible verses and songs and dancing to children in the neighbourhood. It not only evangelizes but also builds up the faith of the students as they share what they have learnt with others.
The ultimate goal of our outreach ministry is to prepare the ground for the future church in this community. Anytime from now on, as we go on teaching and ministering to the people in this area, we believe that there will be a church planted by the time I have thoroughly been trained in the word of God so as to be a pastor. This ministry is not simply about coming to teach English or share the Gospel; it is about building the groundwork for a fellowship of believers, those who, over time, will develop into a new congregation that will, in turn, go out and proclaim the Gospel to even more people.
